Edenbrook are currently partnering with a leading specialty insurer/reinsurer on a Head of Financial Risk (12 month FTC) Responsibilities Lead the implementation and embedding of the financial risk framework, setting out the approach to identifying, assessing and managing financial risks and controls in alignment with the wider enterprise risk management (ERM) framework, strategic objectives and applicable regulatory requirements. Ensure financial risk exposures and associated controls across all business areas are appropriately monitored and reported to relevant management and governing bodies. This includes: Providing timely and effective risk management support, challenge and opinions, including on strategic developments, change initiatives and new products. Supporting the development and implementation of risk appetite and related metrics. Contributing to emerging risk assessments and scenario analysis activities. Building strong working relationships across the business and developing subject matter expertise where required. Reporting on the aggregate financial risk profile, including material exposures, positions against risk appetite, control effectiveness and any significant incidents. Supporting the ORSA production process. Review and challenge the validation of the internal capital model, including risk quantification and aggregation methodologies. Participate in governance and management committees as required, escalating key issues appropriately. Present a holistic view of financial risks and controls to senior committees and the Board. Act as deputy for the Head of ERM in interactions with regulators and other external stakeholders on risk-related matters. Knowledge and Skills Strong capital modelling and/or internal model validation experience. Extensive experience in the non-life / general insurance sector, ideally with London Market or Lloyd’s exposure. Excellent report-writing skills, with experience preparing materials for senior management, committees or Boards. Ability to question and challenge the business at all levels and present balanced, well-reasoned risk opinions and recommendations. Strong communication skills. Knowledge of Solvency II and familiarity with requirements of major UK regulators. Quantitative university degree. Ideally a qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent).
