We are working with a leading Lloyd’s syndicate seeking a Syndicate Accountant to join their central finance team. This London-based opportunity is suited for a technically strong insurance accountant with proven experience in syndicate reporting and a track record of delivering high-quality financial reporting and controls. The successful candidate will take ownership of the syndicate’s financial reporting, ensuring compliance with Lloyd’s, UK GAAP, Solvency II, and international regulatory requirements. This role will involve working closely with internal teams, auditors, and external regulators while supporting process improvements and contributing to financial control across the syndicate. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified accountant with Lloyd’s experience to step into a key role, driving efficiencies and delivering accurate financial oversight in a fast-paced and evolving environment. Responsibilities: • Lead the production of quarterly and annual financial returns to Lloyd’s under UK GAAP and Solvency II. • Prepare statutory and interim accounts in line with relevant accounting standards. • Deliver Lloyd’s Flash Reports, QMA Delta, QSR/ASR, and Solvency UK returns. • Manage US and Canadian regulatory reporting (including NAIC) and related tax returns. • Complete monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, resolving outstanding items. • Deliver expense variance analysis and commentary for Board papers. • Reconcile underwriting and financial data from source systems to the ledger. • Provide underwriting data and analysis for other departments, including Actuarial. • Liaise with auditors to ensure compliance with audit requirements. • Maintain clear evidential support for all balance sheet items. • Contribute to ad hoc projects such as Solvency UK transition and automation initiatives. • Identify and implement improvements to financial reporting processes. Ideal Candidate: • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or part-qualified actively studying. • Strong technical knowledge of insurance and reinsurance accounting. • Experience in Lloyd’s syndicate reporting under UK GAAP and Solvency II. • Knowledge of Lloyd’s systems and direct settlement processes. • Advanced Excel skills with strong proficiency across MS Office. • Knowledge of Coda and W-Desk (desirable). • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail. • Effective communicator with proven stakeholder management skills. • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a pressurized environment. • Proactive and eager to develop skills through training and project involvement.
