Reporting into the Group Executive Team, this role plays a critical part as the senior executive responsible for the design, governance, and performance of underwriting across all Citadel Group entities. You will ensure delivery of group-level gross and net underwriting profitability, drive disciplined underwriting, capital efficiency, and AI-enabled decision-making, while maintaining strong governance and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Group underwriting strategy, identifying profitable opportunities and expanding the underwriting footprint across facultative, direct, and treaty business.
• Own delivery of gross and net underwriting profitability and sponsor new growth initiatives, including product development and distribution opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, carriers, and MGAs to secure profitable opportunities.
• Design diversified underwriting portfolios and deploy group capacity dynamically in line with capital, solvency, and retrocession frameworks.
• Champion AI-assisted underwriting tools and the Group’s single data layer to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
• Maintain and enforce the Group-wide Underwriting Guidelines and Manual across all entities and jurisdictions.
• Chair or co-chair underwriting committees, ensuring adherence to delegated authorities, governance, and internal/external peer reviews.
• Oversee exposure management, risk aggregation, and capital alignment, ensuring underwriting operates within board-approved risk appetite.
• Support quarterly reserving cycles, maintain high-quality underwriting data, and ensure regulatory compliance across all platforms.
• Sponsor the Group’s retrocession strategy, overseeing structure, counterparties, capacity, and alignment with capital and RoE objectives.
Core Skills and Experience
• Extensive senior underwriting leadership experience across international insurance and reinsurance platforms.
• Proven track record of delivering profitable growth while maintaining disciplined underwriting and governance.
• Deep knowledge of underwriting strategy, portfolio construction, capital management, and retrocession structures.
• Experience with multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
• Strong relationship management with brokers, clients, and internal/external stakeholders.
• Skilled in leveraging technology, including AI-assisted underwriting tools, to enhance decision-making.
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical, risk management, and decision-making capabilities.
• Effective leader with experience managing global underwriting teams and setting performance standards.
