Edenbrook are working with a leading MGA who are seeking a Motor Underwriter to join their team based near middlesborough. This role will focus on underwriting risks across Commercial and Agricultural product lines while supporting the delivery of sustainable and profitable underwriting results. The successful candidate will play an important role in underwriting new and renewal business, maintaining strong broker relationships, and ensuring alignment with the business’ underwriting strategy and risk appetite. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with internal stakeholders while helping drive operational efficiency and underwriting excellence. Core Responsibilities: • Underwrite new business and renewal risks within delegated authority in line with underwriting strategy and risk appetite. • Develop, negotiate, and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key stakeholders to support profitable growth. • Manage workload effectively to meet agreed service levels while delivering a high standard of customer service. • Act as a point of reference for lower authority underwriters and support underwriting decision-making where required. • Work collaboratively with other areas of the business to deliver planned underwriting results and improve operational processes. • Support the development of relationships with key customers and capacity providers where required. • Ensure adherence to internal processes, regulatory requirements, and underwriting governance standards. • Maintain accurate records and support audit readiness while identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements. • Undertake any additional duties as required by the business. Key Requirements • Previous experience in an underwriting role within a commercial insurance environment. • Knowledge of commercial insurance products, including wordings and underwriting guidelines. • Strong analytical and numerical reasoning with the ability to make pragmatic underwriting decisions. • CII qualification desirable but not essential. • A degree or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
