Reporting into a Senior member of the Financial Control team, this role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial accounting and control activities across the business. You will be involved in core financial accounting, finance operations, regulatory reporting, and process improvement, working closely with a wide range of finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including posting accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, leases, intercompany journals, and other financial accounting entries.
• Maintain ownership of key balance sheet areas, ensuring accurate reconciliations and timely resolution of differences.
• Prepare and review bank, balance sheet, and income statement reconciliations, including ageing analysis.
• Support quarterly financial and regulatory reporting requirements, including VAT and other statutory submissions.
• Assist with technical accounting processes, including quarterly reporting under IFRS standards.
• Review and approve invoice coding, supplier payment runs, and employee expense submissions.
• Provide qualitative review of expenses during month-end to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Respond to queries from suppliers, employees, FP&A, and internal stakeholders.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit queries.
• Ensure robust financial controls, documentation, and procedures are maintained.
• Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve accounting and finance operations processes.
• Contribute to the implementation of new tools and technologies (e.g. Excel automation, reporting tools, scripting solutions).
• Actively support continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.
Core Skills and Experience
• Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• Proven experience in financial accounting or financial control roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with journal postings, reconciliations, and core accounting processes.
• Exposure to finance operations activities, including invoicing, supplier payments, and expenses.
• Strong Excel skills; experience with automation or reporting tools is an advantage.
• Background in financial services or a regulated environment is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to work autonomously, show initiative, and drive process and control improvements.
• Strong attention to detail with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
